How to monitor hand soap use?

I need a way to monitor if hand soap is used, was considering getting the alexa soap dispenser but unfortunately does not seem like it would work in the uk. Has anyone seen a project or another smart soap dispenser? Would an esp module with a ultrasonic sensor or motion sensor work if placed on the underside of a dispenser? Thanks
