Hello all
I started a major home renovation this year of an early 50s 3 bed semi in the UK. I will be going room by room rewiring and replacing most of the heating system and I want to put things in place for home automation, even if I come back to it years later. I work in industry and am a fairly competent electrician and PLC programmer so I have the basics to take this sort of thing on. I would rather not have dozens of batteries to maintain so would be prepared to hardwire anything on its own circuit if required.
Lighting I have been pulling neutral wires to the room light switches as I do each room so they should be good to go for a decent smart switch, I was looking at Shelly dimmer relays but it seems like an ideal location for something that could repeat a ZigBee/zwave network around the house, I have not found many options in the UK for smart switches with neutrals because not many people have that luxury, has anyone done this before?
Heating Currently have gravity fed radiators and a hot water tank with a Y plan heating system. I want to install underfloor heating for the downstairs so will be converting the heating to S plan at the least, I intend to do it so the gas boiler can be replaced with a heat pump in a few years. To do it best I think I need smart temperature sensors in every room and valves off the underfloor heating manifold so I can have independent heating zones. Probably need an off the shelf solution for this to keep it maintainable if I ever sell up
Voice control I got into Android from the HTC Hero so I am heavily invested in the Google ecosystem, will be wanting to use Google home/smart speakers to control lighting/heating
Door locks My car is keyless entry, in my dreams so is my house. And I shout at Google and it locks/unlocks for me. That's a dream!
Bathroom mirror I have been looking at artformer mirrors for a while, any experience with them on here?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers all
