Water sensor for window wells?

Can anybody recommend a sensor that can run out doors in a window well? This is for a friend who is not a big HA geek so integration with a fancy HA system is not a firm requirement. But the ability to alert somehow if water is building up in the window well is. Ideally it won’t require wires to break through the seal of the window nor batteries that will go dead in the cold.

Probably asking a lot, I know. Wires run externally could work. Something like a sprinkler rainfall sensor with alerting capability.

Has anybody figured out something for this use case?
