Windows tablet as wall-mounted Home Assistant dashboard?

I'm trying to find ways to get like a wall mounted HA dashboards, but having difficulty on finding the minimum spec possible to make it at least secure software wise.

I'm using Facebook Marketplace for this to get it as cheap as possible. Android tablets are a bit iffy for me as majority of tablets from local brands here don't even get software updates if I recall correctly, its literally a WYSWIG OS-wise. Windows tablets seems to be a good fit, as if possible I can replace it with Linux Mint or the not-so-resource heavy Linux Distro with a browser.

I have multiple approaches, feel free to suggest:

  • Android tablet, but what's the bare minimum you can go for. Some in the resell market still are on Jelly Bean or Kitkat, are they still safe on the network?
  • Windows Tablet, more likely either replaced with Linux Mint or any low-powered distro (how difficult is this?), or stay on Windows and use a browser. I found one that's like less than 20 USD (converted from local currency), but has a column of dead pixels, would that be an issue later down the line as it's no longer being sold at most its 10 years old so spare parts are rare to non-existent.
  • Any other suggestions are welcome.
