Replacing an aging dynalite system

I just bought a home with a couple of Dynalite switches wired to a controller (which I still haven't sighted but I have found a manual for it amongst the various property related documents the previous owners held onto). The switches themselves still work but easily become stuck and I would like to replace them with more readily available switches for ease of maintenance in the future.

After removing a switch from the wall I noticed a couple of things:

  1. They are wired using only a couple of pairs out of a Cat5 cable, no standard electrical wiring to be found.
  2. The electrical box is quite small, really only enough to house the rear components of the switches.

I believe the switches signal the controller, which then sends power over a standard lighting circuit to 10+ LEDs.

I'd like the ability to control these lights with software, while also retaining simple manual controls that don't confuse someone who is unaware that they are "smart" switches. I landed on momentary push button switches connected to a dimmer module like the fibaro dimmer as all-in-one smart switches seem to be difficult to find in Australia (recommendations welcome). The benefit of this approach is I could actually solve the problem of the small electrical box by locating the dimmer module where the current Dynalite controller (and electrical cabling) is and then install a simple push button switch where the current switch is. The main thing I'm unsure about is using the existing Cat5 wiring from the switch to the dimmer as I'd really like to avoid chasing these runs to replace them with standard wiring. Has anyone seen anything like this before? Would it be possible to use the Cat5 purely for "signalling" the dimmer module? I know it would be illegal for me to do this myself, I'm just trying to work everything out before calling an electrician.
